Simmondsia chinensis is a tender woody evergreen shrub. It grows from 2-8 feet high with hairy stems and lance-shaped gray-green leaves; in spring there are clusters of cup-shaped, greenish male flowers or single bell-shaped female flowers. Female flowers develop single-seeded capsules whose seeds contain a scentless, clear, waxy oil. It can be used in soaps shampoos, hair tonics, and skin creams; you can add it to furniture polish or car wax or used as a lubricant for high-speed machinery as well.

Common Uses For Jojoba Oil

To Maintain Skin Hydration.

As is the case with other oils, jojoba oil is a great emollient, softening and smoothing your complexion; when it's combined with occlusive ingredients, such as beeswax, it also helps protect the skin barrier, reducing trans-epidermal water loss and sealing in moisture.

For It’s Amazing Antioxidants.

Jojoba oil is rich in flavonoids and vitamin E, a potent antioxidant that defends the skin against oxidative damage, which contributes to signs of aging. It’s a good option to use at any age, to help both protect and brighten the skin.

To Reduce Inflammation & Soothe Skin.

Jojoba oil is amazing at reducing redness and keeping skin calm and comfortable. It contains vitamin E and is a good source of B-complex vitamins. These vitamins, along with the anti-inflammatory effects, make it useful for wound healing.

To Treat & Reduce Acne.

It's non-comedogenic and won't clog pores, an imperative quality to search for if you have oily skin but still want to use an oil. It can balance out your skin's natural oil production and reduce inflamation.
